I saw this earlier but takes Gogo forever to bring this out and I was out seeing a good music, hit to the feels anime movie.
Anyways review time.
Ao no Orchestra (Blue Orchestra)
Source: Web manga.
Genre: Drama, music.
Studio: Nippon Animation.
(A vintage studio company known for the 1999-2001 Hunter x Hunter, Let's Make a Mug Too, Hyakko, Fantastic Children, collab with OLM for Love All Play, among many older other anime.)

Personal thoughts:
For a music and a drama anime it was well balance and has a good foundation.
Also a music anime that focus real well on orchestra training and such in school setting, but it's not as a feels gut wrencher as Hibike Emporium or not a high level as Kono oto Tomare ether.

However this series focus on the main characters very well from backstory to easy to predict dilemmas. Then build some good character development but mainly on the main cast though (like 80%,) The animation was average to above average some episodes but some of the story was a bit dull and dry in some areas and was snooze.
The most shortcomings was ofc the cgi when mostly when anyone to everyone was playing that mid and it was off putting but it was good and fluid shifting from that back into 2D animation and them some. The Opening was really good with it's visuals to the song.

But the most gripe is I do thank Tenzu-subs for translating this but it could have been betters since on many occasions there was no translations on some that will speaking.

But anyways the last 2 eps with the regular concert and the self refection flash backs was pretty good and gave it more in depth. And even when Anno & Saeki issues were solve nicely.
Except sometime Akine was just too loud and annoying that I could hardly deal with in this.

Anyways the story was average drama, the plot was good, the music is/was a 10/10.

As for anime it self it gets a 7.5/10, and see everyone in S2 since the news was mention earlier also the ending mention it's in production.

Overall very good. Wouldn't mind some romance but not going to get my hopes up.

Crimson.Princess • 7 months ago

my exact opinion, would of been amazing with some romance could of even been a 10/10

Leo Aestron • 7 months ago

There will be season 2

Crimson.Princess • 7 months ago

yeah ik but who knows if it will have some romance

Escandar277 • 7 months ago

season 2 better be littered with romance.

Escandar277 • 7 months ago

same if theres romance, I would ignore the other character's drama. Ngl its soo annoying.

strange guy • 7 months ago

Yep agree

I don't have anything clever to say, but this anime is so good. Also, 2nd season is in production, looking forward to it.

Watchforever • 7 months ago

Agreed

Nerdcatlady • 7 months ago

An enjoyable anime for me, with some cons like,
the cgi was so and so when they were playing music,
as someone also said, either talk but without the main music behind or just let the music talk itself (because both were beautiful - the music and the feelings that were being described),
I didn't really like the flashbacks.ppt of characters the anime didn't even get envolved with, also I wanted a little more romance between some characters and
a little more emotional story between Aono, Saeki and their families/mothers or where is the father now, a comeback or something...
Something like that, might/could be a better cliffhanger imo since we already had in the end, not one but 2 episodes of full concert and since they already announced a 2nd season. Let's hope they will show more then but in general, it was a fun ride 7/10 from me!

Wyntile • 7 months ago

I'm only just 8 minutes in, but Omg, third straight episode of flashbacks. Main characters sure, but I don't give a damn about characters whom I've never seen once in this series before. STOP GIVING US FLASHBACKS!!

For me it's bad enough already this world considers classic music as mandatory music pieces they have to play. Maybe it's because I was young back then, but back when I was in my town's local orchestra even then I could never give a damn about classical music. Played both violin and piano for 10 years straight it was always such a hassle memorizing 5 concerto pieces for my grade 10 RCM exams for piano.

The mandatory music today should honestly be from tracks created by the Two Steps from Hell youtube channel, as an example. Music that is relevant to today's age and tastes. That way people like me could get more motivated to play it. Though while I do commend history's past composers for being able to write music scores for all parts (melody, harmony, bass etc), the music is too god dang TAME and BORING! I still remember the time when back in high school my music team has us go to a New York Philharmonic orchestra as part of a school trip, I fell asleep straight away.

Welp anyways, at least Devorak's last two pieces in this episode was there. Otherwise if it wasn't for the story and drama that was in this anime I would've dropped this a long time ago. Overall this anime was great, minus the many unnecessary flashbacks at the end there.

But wow, I'm surprised. That in this anime the Orchestra club only did 1 major performance per year. For my high school woodwind orchestra there were Provincial band tournaments, not to mention many school events we had to practice and participate for

7 days later I’m surprised season 2 is happening so soon when we usually get an announcement in months

Watchforever • 7 months ago

Gonna miss this show but at least it’s getting a season 2

Souma's Headband • 7 months ago

STOP TALKING TOO MUCH DURING THE PERFORMANCES FFS
1st movement was the worst, I couldn't enjoy the music because Saeki talked way too much
2nd movement was great. only 10/11 lines. see? flashbacks are okay, just show the scenes without adding lots of monologues/dialogues. I got chills listening to the performance
3rd movement was okay. i'm jealous of the audiences there, they're in awe because they can hear the full performance
4th movement, love the build up, but it gets meh after that. the only great thing was the part where Harada being brutally honest to Hatori.

7/10. I like the dramas, character relationships & interactions, but I think they could improve the performances part.
after all of those dramas, all of those practices, and we only get to listen to BGMs, not actual performances smh

strange guy • 7 months ago

Yeah that’s how I would rate it too

Heavily Plated • 3 months ago

I really preferred talking over performances to the practice sessions where they were rehearsing over the same part of the same piece several times. I don't need that much realism in my escapism.

Asian Lady Jean • 6 months ago

This is really an nice ending of the show. This get a second season, so I am looking forward to that one.

Paradise SLU • 7 months ago

10/10 for the beautiful melody, and for this spectacular anime it was great.

Shika • 7 months ago

I wasn't expecting a second season but all I'll for it!!! I pray we're able to get another 24 episodes to build up character's progressions & also build up good drama.

This was a great show, if there was a sprinkle of romance I'd love it even more. (One can only hope/pray we get a little in season 2)

Escandar277 • 7 months ago

season 2 better be littered with romance and it would be awesome to see Aono plays piano next and maybe then he can duet with Akine and Haru.

Shika • 6 months ago

Praying for the romance but gotta wait to find out!

epic beautiful subarashi πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
10/10 anime, went through all the emotions potrayed in this anime.

sol666 . • 7 months ago

Bravo! Great ending. It had a really terrible story tempo, drastically bogging down in slow mind numbing dialogue scenes but atleast they had a very clear idea of the ending.

Watchforever • 7 months ago

If anything this is sorta a 7.8/10 show for me but I will miss watching it on Sunday
